Quote to Live By: “A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more. Nobody is going to win a 5,000 meter race after running an easy 2 miles. Not with me. If I loose forcing the pace all the way, well, at least I can live with myself”Steve Prefontaine

Quote to Race by: “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running”

Itinerary:

8:00AM Meet in front of Paul VI HS for bus

8:15AM BUS LEAVES

8:45AM Arrive at Cherokee HS

10:ooAM FRESHMAN BOYS RACE

10:40AM SOPHOMORE BOYS RACE

12:00PM SENIOR BOYS RACE

1:00-1:15PM Bus leaves for Paul VI HS after cool downs and team talk.

1:45PM-2:00PM Approximate return home.

REMINDERS:

Start hydrating several days before your race. NOT the night before or day of.

Eat a light breakfast. Substantial, but light. Stay away from dairy, greasy foods, and acidic beverages before races. Idea of a good breakfast? Toasted bagel with peanut butter. Banana, power bar, and some oatmeal. Bad idea for breakfast? Bacon, egg, and cheese with a big glass of milk. You guys get the picture!

Come OVERPREPARED. Pack EVERYTHING the night before. It will be chilly in the morning. Bring your warm-up, hoodie, dry socks, shorts, and a shirt. REMEMBER your spikes and uniform.

Remember we are a team – you come wearing your warm-up not a collection of whatever clothing you felt like putting on! Freshmen, if you don’t have a warm-up yet, wear anything you have that is Paul VI issued or store bought.

Did I miss anything?! I don’t think so. Let’s start this season off on a great note! Both Coach Rankin and I are looking forward to it all and I know you guys are too…
