Blue & White 2010 Results: White 27, Blue 28

Posted by Breton on October 31, 2010

Coach Rankin’s White team outlasted Coach Bonnette’s Blue team in a one-point affair settled by a matter of seconds. Blue team’s Nick Vadino led by example, taking the race out from the gun an going through the fast first mile in 5:30. The White team, in pack formation, led close behind with Blue’s Dan Marino and Matt Gentek in hot pursuit. In the end, however, the White pack of Boldurian (who won Most Improved on the day), Gallagher, and Booth prevailed. Jake Durante-Koller won most improved freshman after registering a 12:02, good for a :46 second improvement from earlier in the year at the Cherokee Challenge. All in all, even with the drop in temperature, it was a good day as we transition into the Championship Season.

Thank you to those who came out in the cold and those brave parents and siblings who opted to test out the 2-mile Borton Mill course full of odd turns and “rabid” dogs. There was also a crazy man on the loose dressed in a “Scarecrow” costume, chasing people with a broom.

On to South Jersey Parochials! Keep a look out for pictures and video…congratulations to the White team. Blue owes you dinner.

White 27, Blue 28

10. Feeney [W] 12:25
11. Bretschneider [B] 12:29
12. Cleary [W] 12:45
13. Patterson [W] 12:47
14. Rizzo [W] 13:00
15. Munns [B] 13:01

White: 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14 – 27 (Advisors: Nick Lamberto, Neil MacFarlane)
Blue: 1, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 15 – 28 (Advisors: Tom Hoban, Adam Verna)

By the way, if you haven’t noticed already – the majority of our team unleashed an impressive barrage on the Times 2007- list after Thursday’s Haddonfield Sub-Varsity Invitational. Make sure you click on the Times 2007- and check out just how well they did. Biggest PRs on the day? George Balzer went from 19:04 to 18:06, Robert Cleary went from 20:59 to 19:39, Anthony Feeney went from 19:49 to 19:10, and last but not least, Anthony Rizzo went from 21:04 to 19:53. All freshmen. Senior C.J. Grenier also shaved over a minute off his time, running a solid 24:59!!

Pretty impressive!

The Blue & White 2010: Details

Posted by Breton on October 27, 2010

Our 3rd Annual Blue & White meet will take place this Saturday at Borton Mill’s Park in Cherry Hill, NJ. It is a flat, two-mile course that all are welcome to race! The idea – for PVIXC’s purpose – is an intra-squad meet in which teams will be drafted by both Coach Bonnette (Blue) and Coach Rankin (White). It will be scored like a regular XC meet with the Alumni and Parents are more than welcome to come out and toe the line! In fact we challenge you to. The winning squad (Blue or White) will win a dinner on the other squad (the one from last year still needs to be delivered upon!). There will be prizes for Best Costume (those that dare to dress up – you’ll get negative points if you dress up like either Coach), Top Runner, and Most Improved.

We will have snacks/refreshments afterwards. Alums or parents, please e-mail bbonnette@pvihs.org if you plan on racing! ALL ARE WELCOME TO RACE – younger/older siblings, parents, alums, friends! The full course can be seen here…http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/us/nj/cherry%20hill/597684926998. (For the best view, put it into Satellite View)

RACE STARTS: 9:00AM
Date: Saturday, October 30th, 2010
Location: The MAIN Parking Lot is right across the street from 306 Bortons Mill Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.

Olympic Conference Championship: Details

Posted by Breton on October 21, 2010

After a week of big PRs up at the Brown Invitational and a successful (thanks parents!) trip to and from Rhode Island. The boys are ready to get back to familiar competition. Just take a look over at the Times 2007- tab and you’ll see how well they did! As a team, the Varsity guys finished 6th out of 28 squads. The JV guys, 6th as well. The Freshmen had a great showing, finishing 9th out of 27 teams from all over the Northeast.

We’re going to overlook the fact that many of you look VERY creepy in this picture and see it as a great team photo.

Senior captain Tom Hoban ran a blazing 15:53 to take 2nd in his race, one second off of Mike Rankin’s record since 2007.  Sophomores Neil MacFarlane and Adam Verna continue a breakout season as both broke 17 minutes for the first time running 16:50 and 16:58 respectively. The biggest PRs of the day, however, belonged to sophomore Michael Pezzano and junior John Madden – Pezzano took over 30 seconds off of his time to run 19:25 and Madden ran a 19:11, over 40 seconds off his previous best!

Next up? THE OLYMPIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP. Details below.
