Scholarship
Congratulations to our scholarship recipients this for the 2010 cross country season, Michelle Hess (Eastern) and Miles Schoedler (Ocean City)!
Michelle was voted All-South Jersey this past season and will be heading to the University of Maryland-College Park this fall where she will run cross country, winter and spring track. Over her four years, she established herself as one of the best runners ever to come out of Eastern Regional HS. Michelle leaves Eastern with PRs of 18:57 for the 5,000m and 11:32 for the 3200m.
Miles will head to Georgetown University after a record-breaking four years. That says a lot coming from Ocean City, a school that has groomed stars like Brett Johnson and John Richardson. His best race of the year came in the Championship race at Shore Coaches, a second place finish in an impressive 15:44 at Holmdel. His career yielded PRs of 4:11 for the full mile and 9:12 for the 3200 and several state championships. He also participated in the Millrose Games and the Penn Relays High School Mile, both prestigious events in their own right.
The 2011 Bonnette Ross Group XC Scholarship information will be out in early SUMMER.

THE BONNETTE ROSS GROUP XC SCHOLARSHIP
All of the proceeds will go towards the funding of a scholarship that will be awarded to a deserving male and female cross country runner at the end of each season. Any local cross country runner (within a 100 mile radius of Haddonfield, NJ) may apply. The criteria for qualification looks like:
- A competitor in the 2010-2011 XC season
- A GPA average of 2.5 or above – transcripts must be provided
- A senior graduating during the 2010-2011 school year who plans on continuing participation in cross country at their respective university/college/trade school
It can be used at either public or private universities, depending on the stipulations. The amount is $1,000 for each a boy and girl student-athlete for one academic year, non-renewable. The scholarship will be sent to the winner’s respective school.
To qualify, students must fill out an application for the Bonnette Ross Group Scholarship. This involves several things:
- The completion of the enclosed application
- Three letters of recommendation (one of which must be from your coach)
- A copy of your high school transcript or a counselor letter on school letterhead to verify the accuracy of your transcript
- The signature of you, your parent, and your coach for verification of the complete application.
This helps us to ensure we are giving the most qualified individuals. Extra applications may be downloaded via www.pvixc.com or by the e-mail listed below.
Last year’s inaugural winners were Philip Fanz (Saint Augustine’s) and Brooke Dovell (Timber Creek). Philip will run at Temple University this fall. Brooke will run at the University of Miami (FL)!
The scholarship is awarded by the Bonnette Ross Group, a financial services group that has followed and supported South Jersey cross country for over 30 years. The winner will be determined by a committee of coaches/community figures that will review each application thoroughly. They will be familiar with the target population, adhere to high standards, and will be able to fairly apply the existing selection criteria without regard for self-interest.
The winner will be announced in December 2010.
